Literature - Final Overview

Literature class was one of my favorites during all high school. First I thought that it was going to be really boring and hard because that's what the other students used to say to us, the little ones in eight grade, then I learned that it was actually a fun class. Teacher Felix managed to make the classes interesting and dynamic, I'm being really honest when I say that I didn't feel any of his classes tedious because he knows what he is doing and how to interact with us. This class also had interesting stories since 9th grade, and it was hard for me to only pick two of them all for this project. Thank you Teacher for all the advice that you gave us and your support.

R&W - Final Overview

I had a love-hate relationship with Reading and Writing during all my high school. I hated it because the readings were boring and the teachers didn't know how to make it dynamic. That was until Teacher Heysa arrived, she found a way to make the class interesting and fun. Even though the readings still made me want to rip off my hair, the class felt light and I could rely on Teacher Heysa to explain what I did not understand. It was a pleasure to receive this class because it helped me to improve my reading comprehension after all, thank you teacher Heysa for being patient with me.

The Tell-Tale Heart - Review

The Tell-Tale Heart is a story by Edgar Allan Poe, I would say that it is an intriguing story and also sort of a thriller. I like this kind of stories in which you don't know if the narrator is sane or not. Sometimes it was hard to understand the narrator's motive to do what he did. The way he describes the things made it one of my favorite stories of this cycle.

The story is about a man that lives with an old guy that has a strange eye. First he claims that he loves the old man, but as the story is developing he reveals his true intentions. He organizes a viable plan to kill the old man, but with one condition, the eye had to be wide open.  He goes into his room for seven nights, but the eye was closed. On the eight night there was a modification, the eye opened and the narrator started his plan. He killed the man, dismembered him and buried him under the flooring. He made sure that there were no blood stains, that the flooring was clean and stable, it was the perfect crime. Later, the police arrived because a neighbor called them, first he acted naturally, but then his own paranoia betrayed him. He felt like the officers were laughing at him, he started to get nervous until he would finally admit to killing the old man.

The Origin of the Seasons - Review

The Origin of the Seasons is a story written by Olivia Coolidge and we read it in ninth grade. I really like this story because I am a great fan of Greek Mythology. It was fun to see that we would study a part of it when we were in ninth grade. I enjoyed reading about Hades and Persephone because it is a controversial story. It makes you wonder if Hades actually was in love or just obsessed with Persephone, because if you love someone you want them to be happy, and she was, but with her mother.

Demeter was the goddess of the harvest and the great earth mother. She had a daughter named Persephone, she was full of joy and with the sound of her laugh made Hades fall in love with her. Hades went to see Zeus to ask for his permission to make Persephone his wife, he agreed and when she was picking flowers with her maidens she got captured and taken to the underworld. Demeter went to look for her, she was desperate because once she found out that Zeus gave his permission she couldn't do anything. She was sad and left her duties as a goddess, which exacerbated the Earth's condition because there were droughts, nothing was growing, there was food scarcity and Demeter was glad that others were also suffering just because she was also in pain. The gods sent Iris to look for her, she offered all kinds of gifts to bring her back, but she didn't want them. She would only accept the petition to go back if her daughter would be with her too. Everything was wrong, so Zeus sent Hermes to look for Persephone. Hades couldn't decide against letting his wife go back with his mother, and Persephone wanted to go too. Since she was happy with the news, she ate seven seeds that Hades gave her. At the end, the seven seeds meant that she would have to spend seven months with Hades and five with her mother. This is how the seasons were born.
